Frequently Asked Questions
Where does the name "FortySixTen Studios" come from?
From my favorite Bible verse, Psalm 46:10 - "Be still, and know that I am God." It's a constant reminder to slow down and let God handle things in my life, because He's much better at it than I am. When I try to drive, I have a tendency to run into trees and telephone poles.
Office hours from one to five? What's with the banker's hours?
Don't panic - those are just our office hours for client contact. The actual work environment here at FortySixTen Studios is very free-form, because I feel that takes the pressure off of everyone and allows an environment where creativity can thrive. I might also be too cheap to pay for an office when everyone can telecommute, too. There is that.
How much will our website cost?
We won't have any idea until we talk to you. Because each site is such a personal, unique creation that depends on the client and their needs, it's hard for us to put any sort of meaningful pricing table up here. Once we talk to a prospective client and get a basic feel for the project we give an estimate, and as we narrow down the site's specifics we're able to give a more accurate, final quote.
Why do you price by the project and not by the hour?
I've got a really hard time with charging people money - specifically, I want to charge them as little as possible, a trait passed down to me from watching my grandfather give people discounts at his antique store for years. So, rather than work by the hour and try to get things done as quickly as possible, I decide how many hours the project would take me if everyone involved was working at 100% on it the full time, and price for that. That gives us the freedom to take our time with it and experiment to make sure we get the perfect site in place, while still making sure our clients get a great site at a fair price. Everybody wins.
What if you price the project too high?
Then you get some money back. Simple, huh?
What if you price the project too low? Will you just charge me more?
Nope. If we price the project too low, we'll just eat the price difference. Shame on us for not being estimating more accurately.
What's your E-Mail Privacy Policy?
The short version is that we hate spam (the unsolicited e-mail, not the somewhat tasty spiced meatish product) as much as anyone else does. The long version is as follows:
- We will only use your e-mail address for information and offers from us, and even the only if you've confirmed that you want to receive e-mails from us.
- We will not sell your e-mail address to anyone.
- We will not trade your e-mail address to anyone.
- We will not give your e-mail address to anyone.
- We will not speak your e-mail address aloud unless we're 100% sure there are no spammers nearby.
- We will not write your e-mail down then throw the paper away for someone to rummage through the trash and find.
- If you look really closely, you'll notice that we're not asking you to join a mailing list anywhere on the site. We only ask for your e-mail address in the form on this page to, you know, reply.
Trust us, you're safe here.
Are you hiring? Are you looking for new contractors to work with?
We are currently accepting resumes, and we're always looking for new contractors to work with. If you're interested in either an in-house position or work as an independent contractor, please drop us a line using the form on the page and we'll get back with you.
